Does Yahoo will focus on Social Media Networking?

Have you ever noticed that earlier this week in your personal yahoo mail box is like focusing on Social Media Networking? With this in mind, it might be because Yahoo is still behind with Google. They learned it from Facebook and hoping to get more traffic via social network.

Now, for publishers who want to add social network functions to already existing websites, Yahoo! has announced their new Updates API, a web service that provides permission-based access to the actions of any user with a Yahoo! account. As part of Yahoo!’s Open Strategy (Y!OS), this API essentially allows developers to treat the Yahoo! network as a social networking platform.

Yahoo! hopes that website publishers will consider using applications built with the Updates API to drive traffic to their sites. With over 500 million unique users worldwide, Yahoo!’s user base is currently over five times the size of social network Facebook.
